Week 7 Yellow and Transportation

I hope that you all enjoyed your holiday. It has been a wonderful week 7. I love seeing how excited all the kids are to be back at school and see one another. This week we have been learning about transportation (buses) and the color yellow.

This week I have noticed huge improvements in their emotional intelligence. They are becoming more aware of one another. When a student is absent, other students will ask where he/she is, they have started helping each other, they call each other by name, and are doing a great job of sharing.

Here are just a few examples...

Army arrived upset one morning and Uno brought him a toy truck to play with.
Before outside play, Ceci brought Paras her shoes and helped her put them on.

Transportation

For art, this week we made our very own cars that we will be hanging up on the doors.

P' Loi made a parking lot with a ramp that the kids really enjoy. They can drive the car up the ramp and push it down. This is a fun way for them to practice their counting, "1,2,3 GO!" We have also been driving the cars around the classroom and listening for commands such as gostop, and turn around.

Daimyo has started counting along with me and by himself. "1,2,3 Go!"

We also have transportation sorting mats for the kids to use. This is great for them to recognize transportation in their environment. For example, you see a plane in the sky and a car on the road.

On Friday, the students helped Kru Aum paint a big yellow bus that we will be hanging up in the classroom.

Yellow

On Monday, we had a yellow themed water play. I put some toys in the water that were yellow. The students could add toys to the water, but only if they were yellow.

For science, each student made their very own yellow sensory board. This was a great activity to let the students explore different objects and textures. All of the students were very engaged in this activity. They took their time to feel the different objects and add them to their board.
