Giraffes, elephants, and more for our safari week!

We started out the week by going on a safari. I introduced the kids to some new animals by showing them pictures. Then each student received a ticket and their binoculars. We did a safari role play by turning the table into a jeep and using the projector to play a safari video. The kids loved looking for different animals.

Showing the kids all the different animals that we will see on our safari.

Using our binoculars to find different animals.

We now have pictures of animals all over the classroom. I move them around every day and sing "Where is ______, where is ______". The kids then go looking for the animal all around the class.

For art this week we made rainbow elephants.

First we put on glue.

Then we added lots of colored tissue paper.

We also learned about lions and made paper plate lions.

We painted our plates yellow.

Then we added tissue paper to give the lion orange and yellow hair. We also gave our lion a nose, mouth, and eyes.

We started making our safari books. I made these individually with each student. I wanted to see which animals they were able to identify.

First I showed them the picture and asked "what is it?" Then I mixed up the pictures, put them on the table and asked "where is_____ ?" I was very impressed with all of them.

Here are some pictures from swimming on Thursday!

When we were putting the toys in the pool we found a frog!

For science this week we planted seeds. The students shoveled soil into their cups and picked out their seeds.

Also one of our caterpillars became a butterfly today!

We could see the yellow and black wings through the cocoon.

During nap time the butterfly came out of the cocoon.

We let out one of the caterpillars and the kids watched it crawl around.

Star of the Week

This week the Star of the Week is Por-Dee! Por-Dee has been confident and curious this week. He has been answering questions and repeating many new words that we are learning. When we were going on our Safari, I showed the students pictures of different safari animals. I held up a picture of the lion and asked, "what is it?". Por-Dee confidently said, "lion"! Por-Dee has also been expressing curiosity by engaging in all activities. He did a great job shoveling all of his soil into his cup all by himself and enjoys looking around the classroom for all the animals. Great job this week Por-Dee!
